DOMESTIC SERVICES.
THE 1951 CENSUS SHOWS THE NUMBER OF PERSONS ABSORBED
IN DOMESTIC SERVICE as 4,027, of whom 1,140 were women. Persons
included in this group are cooks, indoor servants, water carriers,
grooms, coachmen, motor-car drivers, cleaners, etc. While the number
employed in this occupation decreased between 1901, and 1911, it
increased between 1911 and 1921. Between 1931 and 1951 however,
there has been a. decrease. The variations during the period
1901-1951 are shown below:-
